Join us at Patagonia Bend for an evening with photographer / author / surfer / activist, Brown Cannon as he shares stories and images from his new book, NORTH.
Focused on the specific stretch of coast known as the Seven Mile Miracle, his imNORTH is a large format photography book (12.5”x17”) inspired by Brown’s love of the North Shore of O‘ahu and his obsession to document those who long for 50-foot surf and the skills it takes to call one of those waves your own. Focused on the specific stretch of coast known as the Seven Mile Miracle, his images paint a stunning portrait of one of the most legendary proving grounds for big wave watermen and women. In addition to studio portraits of surfers, lifeguards, surfboard shapers, photographers, bodysurfers and bodyboarders, he incorporates action shots of his subjects scanning the horizon and then catching and flying down the line on giant waves. NORTH will connect you to surfings rich history specific to the North Shore and to the watermen and women who call this place home.

Brown began his photographic journey in his parents’ darkroom over 40 years ago. He studied photography at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena California and graduated with honors in the Fall of 1999. Brown was named one of the “30 under 30 photographers” to watch by Photo District News and burst onto the scene the day he graduated when he landed his first AD campaign for K-Swiss. This was followed up by his first editorial feature, where he was hired to photograph the action packed South Island of New Zealand for T&L. He never stopped. Brown’s photographs have been shown in galleries and museums in CA, OR, CO, NM, SC and NY.
In 2009 Brown Co-Founded Intersection Photos, a boutique travel stock photography company offering an extensive archive of high quality travel images spanning all 7 continents. In 2018 Brown founded no2plastic.org, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to reducing single-use plastics for the benefit of human and planet health. No2plastic is a worldwide community of people, businesses, students and organizations dedicated to changing consumer habits.
When Brown sets his camera down you will find him in the sea or on the mountain, surfing, skiing, biking or paddleboarding.
Willamette Valley Vineyard's approach is to grow, by hand, the highest quality fruit using careful canopy management and yield balance, to achieve wines that are truly expressive of the varietal and the place where they are grown. They ferment and barrel each vineyard lot separately and display the best of these in our single vineyard designate bottlings. Their stylistic emphasis is on pure varietal fruit characters, with attention to depth, richness of mouthfeel and balance. The wines are truly a collaborative effort of the entire vineyard and winemaking staff.
Their Bend Tasting Room & Restaurant offers world class, sustainably made wines and Pacific Northwest-inspired food pairings. The Bend location features our signature barrel booth seating, unique fireplaces and a private dining room.
